Spring / Summer Beauty Favourites

May 10, 2017

I wanted to start off this post by saying - look at that warm weather, it must be the start of summer! - but I can't. Last week we had snow in Aberdeen, and this week the grey skies over Edinburgh haven't wanted to shift. BUT despite this, I'm still mentally preparing myself for summer, and sorting out my make up bag at the same time. My summer plans are still in the making - I'll be jetting off to Italy to take part in this season of excavation with the Apolline Project, popping down to London to spend time with my brother and sister, and hopefully able to fly off abroad for a break in the sun at some point too. While my exact dates and locations are still up in the air, it doesn't mean I can't start organising my summer beauty products.

So far, I've been picking up bits and bob here and there, so I thought I'd show off the small collection of things that have been making up my spring into summer favourites.

Make up Revolution - Girls Just Want To Have Fun Palette

When it comes to Spring & Summer, I love the natural look with browns and creams, nothing too dark. Keeping it light represents summer to me - when the sun is out I think make up should be all about that summer glow. This Make Up Revolution palette is one of my favourites. The colours are pretty pigmented, and I find that they stay on for the day and the night. It's got a perfect mix of matte shades and glitter colours, meaning that its a great palette for the transition from day to night.

NYX Lipstick Shade 'Castle'

I've recently gotten quite into lipsticks - I used to think that they didn't suit me. Now? I can't get enough of them. NYX is one of my favourite make up brands - the quality of the make up is great, and they're priced really reasonably meaning that I can justify them in my student budget. I felt daring the day I bought this lipstick - I wanted something a bit brighter and fun. This is a beautiful shade of lilac. I know lilac? Emily, you said you didn't wear a lot of lipsticks and already you're jumping on the lilac? But this was to pretty to pass up. I think this is such a lovely colour for Spring and Summer, its bright and happy and looks like summer to me!

MUA White Eyeliner

For years I've been using white eyeliner, but recently lost my stick so needed to pick up a new one. This new one is great, and at £1 a pop, I can't complain at all. White eyeliner is a great way to make your eyes look a little bigger - I line my water line with the white, and can immediately tell the difference. I think its perfect for summer, when I'm going for that more natural look on my eyes.

Maybeline Turquise Eyeliner

I fell in love with coloured eyeliner when I saw Steph Pratt wearing blue under her eyes on Celebs Go Dating (which if you haven't watched, you totally need to). It really brought out the blue in her eyes, and looked so effortless. So I thought I'd give it a go myself, and see if it would bring out the green in my eyes. I know I'm going for that natural eye look this summer, and green eyeliner isn't exactly natural, BUT I feel like this gives my eyes that extra pop while still being easy and taking 5 minutes.

Make Up Revolution Lipstick Shade Can't Escape Me

This is one of my favourite shades of lipstick, and I feel like an absolute barbie when I have it on - but hey barbie rocks the summer look. Its the perfect shade of pink - bright and pastel. It's another Make Up Revolution goodie, so it was a cheap and cheerful buy and I'm pleasantly surprised. What I really like about this lipstick combo is that it also has a lip gloss to match at the other end of the stick, giving me the option of either wearing a totally matte lip or glossing it up. Or following a wee trick I saw to make your lips look bigger by putting the lipstick on then a dod of the gloss in the middle of your lips only.

Barry M Nail Polish

This nail polish has had a mix of reactions - my grandma said that she didn't like my nails - but I love it. Yellow is such a bright and happy colour - it just screams sunshine to me. So whats better for the warmer weather that we'll (hopefully) get. Barry M is a crowd favourite, their polishes are great quality and last for a good few days before chipping (which is great by my standards).

Marks and Spencer's Nail Polish, Shade English Rose

Once I start painting my nails, I can't leave them unpainted. This is another favourite of my 'pretty in pink' looks. Santa brought me a collection of M & S nail polishes - somewhere that I wouldn't have thought of looking myself. All of the colours are great, but this one is the most 'Spring' to me. The colour just pops and makes me feel happy.

SO, there you are - these are just a few of my favourites for Spring and Summer. What's your favourite beauty items for the warmer months? You can be sure to see me rocking all of these over the next few months. I'm most excited to start wearing the NYX lipstick - its a little more out there for me, so it'll take a few deep breathes before I go out the door with it on, but I'm excited to see the reaction towards it. I'm also really excited for the turquoise eyeliner. Both my sister and I got the same colour, so it'll be a battle between us of who gets to wear it on what day. But I'm excited to see how it changes up my everyday make up look!

Now that I've started to get my make up bag ready for summer, its time for me to start preparing my summer wardrobe. I love when its summer and I can take out all my clothes from last year. I'm most to wear this long blue skirt that I got last year from New Look. I only ended up wearing it a couple of times, but I'm planning outfits and occasions to wear it on this year. Make sure you're following me on Instagram to see when I next wear it!

Love,
Emily

  4. I like the Makeup revolution palette. I don't really wear a lot of makeup anyway, so when I do I want it to be neutral looking so I don't freak everyone out. Lol

  7. I also like natural look for the summer. It is not the time when we need to put heavy make up. I like everything that you have picked so far.
