Favourite Things To Do In December

December 19, 2016

While my mind isn't coordinating Christmas presents, scheduling blogmas posts, or building up motivation to write a dissertation, I love to indulge in some Christmassy past times. There's nothing better than giving into your guilty pleasures, and pandering to your Christmas needs.

So I've created a wee list, sharing some of the things I love to do throughout December (with lots of links for you to follow) so that you can feel relaxed and festive this season. Especially now that schools and work is ending for the holidays.

Christmas Pamper Night
This can become as extravagant as you like / need. Why not run a bubble bath with extra bubbles, or lie with cucumbers over your eyes while your skin is cleansed with a face mask and Christmas music plays in the background. Me? I love to curl up with a Christmas movie on, and paint my nails and maybe have a glass of wine (or two).

Visit the Christmas Markets
It seems like every town now has some sort of Christmas market / village on now a days, and it's one of the most festive things you can do. Hit the stalls and find unique gifts for your loved ones, then treat yourself to the delights of mulled wine or a tasty bratwurst.
Edinburgh's city centre is turned into a winter wonderland, while Aberdeen has Christmas trails around the city and the market in centre town.

Go to a Carol Concert
This year I've already been to two carol concerts in the space of two days. Churches everywhere will be holding carol services especially this week on the lead up to Christmas. The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.

Read a Book
Reading books is, of course, not only a Christmastime activity, but there's something about being curled up in a blanket reading while the fairy lights are on and you've got a hot chocolate in hand. Got a book lover friend? Here's some gifts that I pulled together & loved!

Christmas Baking
As if you haven't seen my Christmas baking posts? Its no secret that I love to bake, and create some delicious goodies this time of the year. As if there's not enough food at Christmas, doing some baking will add another treat to the day, and help to show off your artistic flare (or sprinkle pouring skills, in my case).
So far, I've baked mince pies, Christmas cookies and a Chocolate Orange Cake

Spread Christmas Cheer
Sounds cheesy right? Well it is, and that's what this season should be. Spreading cheer is easy - give someone a thoughtful present, write them a card, smile at someone in the street. Christmas is the time to be jolly, and spreading that happiness can brighten someones day, and make your mood even better.

Go on a Walk
I've talked about it time and time again on my blog - I love to walk. Getting outside, enjoying the fresh air and getting a bit of exercise is a huge mood boaster. I've got the added bonus (and motivation) of having a dog to get out on a walk, but enjoying the outdoors is relaxing. It can also be beautiful this time of the year, so long as you're wrapped up!

What are your favourite things to do in December? Are Christmas markets your thing, or do you prefer staying in the warmth watching a movie?

Love,
Emily
