Foodie Friday | Papii Edinburgh

January 22, 2016

What happened to posting every week eh? I told myself that I was to get into a regular posting schedule – I even wrote it as a new year’s resolution – and yet here I am, 20 days without a post! I could apologise, but in truth I needed that little bit of time off. With all the posts I was writing and trying to stay on top of for Blogmas, it’s unsurprising that my fingers needed a little break from tapping away on the key board. That and I also lacked a bit of inspiration. Travels and Christmas has run me dry, and I didn’t want to spend any more money – so had no new products to share, and no new OOTDs considering my days consisted of sitting in leggings and only leaving the house for a dog walk. Needless to say, I’m feeling a little guilty. But I’m back after this wee break with some more ideas to get this blog on a role again. So today, as it’s Friday, I thought it would be a great way to get back into the swing of things with a little Foodie Friday.

This week saw my return to Edinburgh and the delights of student living once again – no heating, having to wash my own clothes and not having meals prepared for me. It only seemed right that I should treat myself to a lunch out – to make sure I’m eating right – and stop in by one of Edinburgh’s New Town cafés.

Papii is located on Hanover Street, just a short walk off of Princes Street, and serves as a perfect stop between Stockbridge which I was visiting that day and my flat. The café itself is pretty small, but we managed to bag a window seat, perfect for some people watching.

Since Papii is known for their Ice Cream shakes, it wasn't a question of whether I wanted one, but what flavour to pick! Unfortunately we were pretty late in the day, and the carmel flavoured one I had my eye on had been too popular that day. Second choice was the Oreo flavoured one, which was in no way second best. It was so moreish, and I found myself drinking it too fast, wanting to finish and reach the oreo cookie that floated on the foamy goodness.

To contrast the cold ice cream shake, and to try and combat the freezing cold weather outside, tomato chilli soup was what caught my eye. Nothing makes my stomach happier than a bowl of homemade soup when the weather is cold. The spices in it were a little over powering for my weak spice tolerance, but I managed to get used to it with regular sips of my shake and dipping bread into it as I went along.

I can't wait to make a return to this fantastic little find, especially with the friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere.
