Blogmas Day 2 | Edinburgh's Christmas Market

December 02, 2015

My favourite thing about Edinburgh in the winter is the Christmas market. The cold, wet and windy weather is worth braving to enjoy a couple of hours out in this festive wonderland. I'm not even the slightest bit ashamed to say that I've already been to the market more than my fair share of times and it's only been here for 10 days! But how can you resist it?

This year it's even bigger with another row of stalls, and many more rides in Santa land. I can definitely recommend the Christmas Tree Maze. Despite being designed for children I decided to take my mum for a go with my sister, expecting to get lost in the Christmas trees covered in lights. Instead we were faced with the task of finding letters in the maze to make a festive word. It was childish, yes, but you've got to let your inner child out. And to reward our efforts we even got a prize of chocolate coins.

The stalls are truly beautiful, with hand crafted ornaments, toys and food galore. I've already treated myself to a couple of bratwursts, filled with onions and gherkins, and are my belly was more than satusfied. As always, the chocolate stalls can not be missed, my favourite being the Chocolate Kisses, which are marshmallow heaven (I've tried 4 of the flavours, all of which are delicious, but my favourite has to be the After Eight).

The stalls always leave me in awe and none can be described as tat. Although it's rather in the pricey side, it's always very easy to find yourself teaching for your purse. Out Christmas table will be adorned with hand painted bowls, our mantle piece with a beautiful wood cut nativity scene and our piano with a white tea light lantern. And no doubt I will be back to add even more Christmas delight to our home.

I truly love coming to the market every year and experiencing the Christmas delight. I even compiled a post this time last year with all the goodness that I experience there.

It makes me so excited that Aberdeen has a Christmas village this year so that I can continue to surround myself in Christmas spirit.

Love,
Emily
